MGPO inaugurates a fully equipped Basic Health Unit and two High Schools on 28th April 2008

Basic Health Unit Kathai

Located near Oghi, District Mansehra BHU Kathai has been termed as “a state of the art health facility” by The News on 29th April 2008. The BHU has a fully equipped and furnished laboratory, pharmacy, EPI section, Obstetrics department, Family Planning section and separate male and female sections with offices for Medical Officer and Lady Health Visitor (LHV). Deputy Director ERRA Lt. General Nadeem Ahmed inaugurated the BHU and appreciated efforts made by MGPO in putting together such an excellent health facility in the remote area of Kathai. He also thanked PPAF and CECP for providing funds for the facility. “ It is such a pleasure to see the concept of ‘Build Back Better’ being practically manifested at the BHU Kathai. My complements to PPAF and MGPO for a job extremely well done. ” wrote Lt. General Nadeem Ahmed in the visitors book after the inauguration. Representatives of PPAF, SAERF, CECP, Health department officials and local community representatives were also present at the occasion.

Government Boys High School, Chattar Plain

GBHS, Chattar Plain is located near Karakoram Highway in UC Chattar Plain, District Mansehra. The school was completely destroyed in earthquake 2005. The covered area of the new school is 18075 sq. ft while covered area of destroyed building was 7648 sq. ft.. It has a fully equipped computer lab, Bio/Chemistry Lab, Physics Lab, Library and an Auditorium.  The school also has a basket ball court and a play ground to encourage healthy extracurricular activities among students.

“To construct a building was the first step. After providing such a state of the art facility now I think there’s no excuse for the teachers and students to under perform.” said Lt. General Nadeem Ahmed while addressing a large gathering of students, teachers, Education Department officials after the inauguration.

Government Girls High School, Saran

GGHS, Saran is located in UC Hattian of District Muzaffarabad; AJ&K. The covered area of the new school is 12160 sq. ft while covered area of destroyed building was 3000 sq. ft..It has a fully equipped computer lab, Bio/Chemistry Lab, Physics Lab, Library and an Auditorium. Lt. General Nadeem Ahmed after inaugurating the school appreciated the efforts of all the donors for making such substantial projects possible in the earthquake hit area. CEO PPAF Mr. Kamal Hayat, representative CECP Ms. Avigail Ziv and Chief Executive MGPO Aisha Khan also addressed the gathering and expressed optimism and confidence for a better future for the people. A young student Saba Muzaffar made an emotional speech before thanking the MGPO, PPAF and ERRA for providing them with a school beyond their dreams and expectations. Talking about the fateful day of 8th October 2005 she recalled “My school, my friends, my teachers all were gone and I kept crying and crying until one day my dad told me that the school will be rebuilt”. MGPO financed by CECP and supported by PPAF will manage these facilities to improve service delivery in collaboration with the local Governments for one year.

Festive Fun As MGPO Schools Celebrate 23 March

23 March celebrations were organized in Government Girls’ Intermediate College and Government High School, Chakothi, Government Middle School and Government Primary School, Khaigaran and Nagni, and Government Girls’ High School, Chanari. In each school, children presented carefully prepared programmes which delighted the audience with their energy and colour. Teachers, parents, school management committee (SMC) members and the community at large gave the arrangements their wholehearted support. The SMCs played a pivotal role in the organization and funding of all functions. Ms Aisha Khan, Chief Executive Officer MGPO was the Chief Guest at each performance. Mr Younas Mughal, Deputy Director Education Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJ&K) also participated in all functions and assured the schools of the full support of the AJ&K government.

Abu Dhabi Conference

Ms Aisha Khan, Chief Executive Officer MGPO, attended the inaugural Crisis and Emergency Management Conference (CEMC), at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre in Abu Dhabi on 3 and 4 March, 2008.

A pioneering initiative of the UAE's National Crisis and Emergency Management Authority (NCEMA), the conference focused on educating and encouraging member countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council to take the first steps towards preparedness for crisis and disaster. Distinguished international experts from a variety of national governments and security and environmental organizations came together for two days of intensive discussion that covered a broad range of topics. These included natural disasters, cyber security, strategies for counter-terrorism and the role of technology, telecommunications and the media in crisis management. The Abu Dhabi conference represents the first attempt to address the region's gaps in the handling of emergency situations.

DEOs & AEOs workshop in Muzaffarabad in March 08

One day workshop on Education Management for DEOs and AEOs was conducted in Muzaffarabad on 22 March 2008. Key resource person was Mr Adeel Anwar General Manager and Professor NUST. The focus was on the monitoring and evaluation systems. In this regard a format was developed and shared with the participants for monitoring of the schools constructed by MGPO. It was a multidimensional workshop which provided an enriching opportunity for the participants to share their experiences and concerns.

Workshop on Phonics

Three Day workshop on phonics for primary teachers in GGIC & GHS Chakothi. The workshop was organized in Islamabad and the key resource person was Ms Mujeeba Batool Program Manager HRDN.
